How To Choose The Best Cooktop For Your Kitchen
There is a lot of misunderstanding about cooktops and ovens in the restaurant industry. Understanding what each one does is a basic starting point for improving efficiency. The confusion most often occurs due to the fact that ceramic, induction, metal and glass cooktops all are heated electrically. For simplicity, distinguish four categories for better clarity.

Electric: An electric model is essentially a miniature version of the oven. Cooktops with electric heating elements operate by detecting movement such as movement of the cooking pot or pans. When there is no motion, a signal is sent to the device to turn on the heat. The power required for operating electric cooktops and ovens comes from a 12 V electrical outlet. They can range from compact size to larger models.

Induction: An induction cooktop operates by using electromagnetic energy. This energy is captured by piezoelectric material contained within the cooktop pan. The cooktop then heats up the food directly. The energy used is a fraction of the energy required to raise the temperature of water through boiling. Electrical energy is used instead of steam or gas to drive the mechanism. The induction cooktops that work with induction set the cooking temperature by detecting the presence of either an object or heat in the cooking pan.

Metal: A metal model combines elements of both induction cooktops and gas cooktops. They are easy to use with no need for electricity. The element is heated by means of a flame. The element heats up food above its own temperature whereupon it vents to the outer atmosphere. The element may also be programmed to start at a specific temperature and maintain it until ignition is complete.

Ceramic: Ceramic cooktops require little attention and they burn easily. They do not use electricity, gas, or steam. They contain small ceramic plates called ceramic glass that are heated by means of a flame. Ceramic glass does not conduct heat well, so it is usually coated with a releasing agent such as silica before use. To achieve the best results, use induction cooktops with coils made of copper, iron or tin. The coils help keep the heating element hot long enough to cook the food evenly.

Glass-ceramic induction cooktops can be made from many different materials. The most common are stainless steel, aluminum, ceramic, enameled, glass, quartz, granite, or chrome. There are cons and pros to each material. Stainless steel is the easiest to clean and maintain, but it is the least energy efficient. Aluminum and glass-ceramic cooktops are the most energy efficient, but they scratch easily and take longer to heat up.

Heaters, including gas stoves, may be used with induction cooktops. You need to choose your ranges carefully to make sure they get hot enough to adequately cook your meals. Many gas stoves have adjustable temperatures so you can choose a setting that will be right for you. Induction cooktops work just as well with gas stoves as they do with ranges.

Glass-ceramic surface cooktops do require regular glass-cleaning to keep them free of fingerprints and food spillage. You need to wipe the entire surface after each use, to remove any dust and dirt that has built up. Once a week, simply wipe the cooking surface with a damp cloth, especially if food has been placed on the burners. To remove food crumbs and drippings, use a damp sponge dipped in warm water and a toothbrush. To wash the grate, use a commercial grout cleaner. Do not use abrasive cleaners, as they will damage the glass-ceramic surface.

All electric ovens must be kept clean, and must not be left sitting for long periods of time. An oven with a self-cleaning option will alert you when it needs cleaning. In the self-cleaning ovens, sensors will detect any spill or accident, which will prompt you to open the door and clean it. It is important to use oven cleaners that are specially designed to clean ovens. They are made from safe ingredients and are non-toxic. If you use other household cleaners on these ovens, you can put yourself at risk of poisoning or hurting yourself.

As with any electrical appliance, an electric cooktop has the potential to develop a fault at any time. Low voltage electric cooktops can suffer a shorts circuit. If the short circuit is caused by a surge in power, the appliance could overheat. Also, extreme cold could damage an electric cooker. If the cooker is not regularly maintained, it may need a component upgrade. For instance, if the current capacity is low and it is not frequently used, it may be a good idea to get a gas element installed instead of an electric element.

There are many types of cooktops on the market, with different sizes, shapes and features. For example, some of them have built-in halogen bulbs. A halogen bulb is a great feature because it produces the heat very rapidly and evenly. However, due to the nature of halogen bulbs, they require a lot of electricity, and are therefore extremely energy-inefficient. induction cooktops and pacemakers To save money on electricity costs, purchase a stove with a sealed burner space, and select a model that uses a lower wattage bulb.
