Термически неустойчив, разлагается на свету. Брутто-формула – Cl2O (строение молекулы показано на рис. 1). Молярная масса равна 86,91 г/моль. Плотность – 3,89 г/л (н.у.). Температура плавления – (-116oC), кипения — 2,2oC.

Растворяется в тетрахлориде углерода. Проявляет кислотные свойства: медленно реагирует с водой, быстро – со щелочами. Сильный Как называется Cl2O7 .

Чтобы определить степени окисления элементов, входящих в состав оксида хлора (I), сначала необходимо разобраться с тем, для каких элементов эта величина точно известна.
Степень окисления кислорода в оксидах всегда равна ( — 2). Для нахождения степени окисления хлора примем её значение за «х» и определим его при помощи уравнения электронейтральности:
2×х + (-2)= 0;
2х – 2 = 0;
Степень окисления хлора в оксиде хлора (I) равна (+1):
Cl+12O-2.
