EEG
An EEG (Electroencephalography), is a test that detects abnormalities in your brain waves, or in the electrical activity of your brain. During the procedure, electrodes consisting of small metal discs with thin wires are pasted onto your scalp. The electrodes detect tiny electrical charges that result from the activity of your brain cells. EEG can help diagnose a number of conditions including, epilepsy (which i have), sleep disorders, (which i have), brain tumors (which hopefully i don't have). EEG's can also help monitor health conditions or find out whats causing certain symptoms. Healthcare providers may use an EEG during brain surgery or to test the brain activity of someone in a coma. In general, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imagining) is good at telling us where the lesion is, whereas EEG is good at separating normal and abnormal primarily cortical function. The topological usefulness of EEG is limited, although it may be improved with computerization. The EEG has been used for many years and is considered a safe procedure. The test causes no discomfort. The electrodes record activity. They do not produce any sensation. An EEG can also detect abnormal brain waves after a head injury, stroke, or brain tumor as stated earlier. Other conditions such as dizziness, headache, dementia, and sleeping problems (as also mentioned earlier) may show abnormal brain patterns. It can also be used to confirm brain death. Non-invasive investigation that can aid the diagnosis of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders. After the EEG you might feel tired as your suppost to only get 4 hours of sleep 2 hours before the actual EEG. As you do need to be tired in order to fall fast asleep in this procedure, you shall not eat or drink anything with caffeine in it for 12 hours befroe the test. This includes soda, energy drinks, and chocolate. An EEG can detect depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, ADHD, ADD, schizophrenia, OCD, autism, stress disorder, etc. Costs for an EEG is $39-$112, for an MRI its $84-$242. The normal EEG goes for 2 hours, but there are some that go for 24 whole hours, that you are put asleep and that would cost around $600-$1,325.
