The problem of not being able to flush your toilet without a full tank can be extremely frustrating for property owners since the toilet cannot be flushed without water coming in at all. Most of the time, this plumbing issue can be fixed without investing in a new toilet. Problems with Float Ball
Your older toilet likely utilizes a float ball. Your tank's level is controlled with this device. The device is designed to float on the surface, and when it reaches a certain height, it cuts off the flow of incoming water. The float ball must be positioned at the right height in order to allow water to enter your toilet, but if it is placed too low, water cannot flow as it should. This problem can be resolved by removing the lid from the tank and carefully bending the float arm upward. Float ball should move up and allow enough water to be able to enter tank. Your component may need to be replaced if the voltage remains too low and the problem persists.


Trip Assembly Issues
This is the piece that attaches to the flush handle on the outside of the tank. Changing its position or becoming damaged could cause it to fail to trigger the flush cycle. The trip assembly should be inspected after lifting the tank lid. Your culprit may be broken, warped or deteriorated pieces. To replace the worn-out part, just purchase a new trip assembly.

Trouble with Fill Valve
Float balls have been replaced by float cups in modern toilet models. Fill valves that are attached to the cup must work properly for this part to work. The tank will not fill if this is not done. Identify the float cup that attaches the fill valve to the float level adjustment rod and remove the lid. Increasing the water level can be accomplished by rotating the rod clockwise and raising the float cup. Test the result by flushing the toilet. Water is coming in too fast, so you may need to adjust its position by turning the screw counterclockwise.
