โรคหลอดเลือดสมองเป็นโรคที่เกิดภาวะสมองบางส่วนขาดเลือดไปเลี้ยง เนื่องจากหลอดเลือดตีบ หลอดเลือดอุดตัน หรือหลอดเลือดแตก ส่งผลให้เนื้อเยื่อสมองส่วนนั้นๆ ถูกทำลาย ไม่สามารถสั่งการให้ร่างกายที่ถูกควบคุมโดยสมองส่วนนั้นทำงานได้ตามปกติ โดยลักษณะอาการที่พบได้บ่อยคือ แขนขาอ่อนแรงและ/หรือชา หรือในบางรายอาจไม่สามารถรับรู้การเคลื่อนไหวของแขนขาได้ ทำให้ผู้ป่วยไม่สามารถใช้งานแขนขาได้ และไม่สามารถเคลื่อนไหวหรือเดินได้ตามปกติ
การตรวจสุขภาพประจำปีอย่างสม่ำเสมอ และหากพบปัจจัยเสี่ยงต่างๆ ดังกล่าวข้างต้น ควรพบแพทย์เพื่อรักษาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ซึ่งจะสามารถลดการเกิดโรคหลอดเลือดสมองได้
