DIMENSIONS AND RESOLUTIONS OF LARGE FORMAT PRINTING
With large format digital printing, the printing of materials considered too large to be printed on commercial printing presses is possible. The correct resolution is crucial when printing large format since the final product is so large. File resolutions and dimensions are not applicable when files are prepared for large format printing. In conventional printing, 300-DPI (better known as dots per inch) is the standard, but large format printing reverses that. A bigger file is not the solution for a large-scale printing project that requires more resolution. By using a bigger file, you will simply end up with one extremely large file that will not provide the desired resolution in the end.
The following guide provides information on large format digital printing resolutions:
To determine large format digital printing resolutions, follow these tips:
Distance affects the ability of the eyes to see detail the farther an object is viewed. Several companies use the diagonal of the final product as a standard since larger images are harder to see up close in their entirety.
For large scale printing, you need to consider the viewing conditions of an image. Is the image illuminated enough? Can the viewer see it clearly with their close proximity? Proper large format printing resolution depends on viewing variables.
Image Actual Soft focus or low contrast images can be printed at lower resolutions. In images with high contrast edges, a lack of resolution can be more apparent. Print resolution should be determined by considering the fine details of the image.
Large Scale Printing File Types
There are two main types of large scale printing files:
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files are used in Adobe Illustrator for vector-based images. Files of this type can contain both text and graphics. This file usually contains a bitmap version of the image rather than vector instructions for displaying the image.
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a file type that contains high-quality graphics in color depths ranging from 1 to 24-bit, supporting lossy and lossless compression. TIFF files can also accommodate multiple pages and layers.
It is important not to flatten the original file before printing, regardless of the printing file type used. For click here and printing, keep a file that can be edited.
