Nepenthes Palawanensis

Nepenthes palawanensis is a tropical pitcher plant endemic to Sultan Peak on the island of Palawan in the Philippines, where it grows at elevations of 1100–1236 m above sea level. It was discovered in February 2010 by Jehson Cervancia and Stewart McPherson.

The species appears to be most closely related to N. attenboroughii, which grows on nearby Mount Victoria. Nepenthes palawanensis can be distinguished from N. attenboroughii by its pitchers, which are even larger, sometimes exceeding 35 cm in height, and with a capacity of 1.5–2 litres of water. (The largest pitchers remain those of N. rajah.) Another difference from N. attenboroughii is that the pitchers of N. palawanensis are lined with orange to red hairs.

Originating from the island of Palawan in the Philippines, Nepenthes palawanensis was discovered in 2010 and is amongst the largest of all Nepenthes species. It has striking red leaves and giant pitchers.

beauty of palawan/ its locality

Palawan's almost 2,000 kilometers (1,200 mi) of irregular coastline is lined with rocky coves and sugar-white sandy beaches. It also harbors a vast stretch of virgin forests that carpet its chain of mountain ranges.
The vast mountain areas are the source of valuable timber.
The terrain is a mix of coastal plain, craggy foothills, valley deltas, and heavy forest interspersed with riverine arteries that serve as irrigation.
There are beautiful beaches/places in Palawan like Big Lagoon, Barracuda Lake, Honda Bay, Kayangan Lake, and etc.

Victoria's Peak in the southern Palawan municipality of Narra is the second highest peak in the province. It is not generally open to the public without authorization from the municipal government. An endemic carnivorous plant called Nepenthes attenboroughii, was discovered here and its surroundings.

Mountaineers and river camp trekkers are not allowed to dispose of their chewing gum or candy wrappers in stone corners or bushes because that would leave a waste trace.Even candy or chewing gum wrappers, they cannot just throw them away in the mountain or stick them between grits. They are always reminded that we strictly adhere to the ‘leave no trace’ as respect for the environment
Bringing trash bags are common in WEP’s travel practice, particularly in mountain treks and climbing because they use them to collect any trash they find along the way. If we pass by any trash, we pick them up. Our returning clients are used to this
