Just like aggression is a little counter-intuitive, that is, betting more out actually wins more back in, playing better cards can actually win you more pots.

At the start of the tournament, when blinds are low and chip stacks are fresh, people tend to be very tight. This means that if someone make a small raise, it's not worth re-raising unless you have a premium hand, the blinds are so low you're not getting a good enough return for the risk.

Write out your plan or strategy. A key component of this should be a list of the pocket cards you will play and from which position. When you know upfront which cards you are going to play you don't have to waste time at the table deciding whether to play or not.
