Fan Tan: A Quick Guide
Fan Tan, or fancan tan in Chinese, is an ancient Chinese game of betting. It has been played for thousands of years in China. Like many ancient games it is purely random, there being no use of skill or strategy on the part of players. It has the same level of sophistication as modern casino gambling games. It's fun to play and you can spend some time doing something that interests you.

These basic rules are easy to understand. A deck of 52 cards is dealt and then the player chooses two cards to be placed face up in front of them. The deck also contains two other cards. The two suits, Tiger and Water, represent the planets around the star cluster called Sol in the constellations of the night skies.

Each player is dealt two cards, face up, at the start of each game. Each player can then place as many cards as they wish on their betting board, starting at one and ending at seven. The King is the first card dealt. This card is the strongest card of the pack, and thus the most valuable. Players can bet against the King and lose all of their money if it lands upon a seven. If there are no sevens landed during the session, the dealer will reveal them to the players and they will lose only the first card they reveal.

After the second card has been dealt, the dealer starts the game with the last card known as the Queen. Players can place bets based on what they know about the Queen's appearance. This could be black, golden red or blue. The cards are dealt at the center of each table. To make cards convertible from one suit to the next, players may remove cards. For example, aces may be converted into kings, and vice versa. Jacks can also be converted into queens.

If any player wants to change the card that he has just dealt, the other players have to consult with each other and take a turn. The dealer will announce that the time has passed and that it is time to blind fold fan-tan. Fan Tan is played by placing the cards face-down on the table. After everyone has folded and the fan-tan has been played, the dealer will inform the players that the time has passed and the blind fold card can be used.

All the other players need to grab the cards facing up while the dealer does the same. The dealer will ask the player which card he would like to choose from the two piles. The dealer will ask that the player choose one card from each of the piles. Next, the player must pass his hand to another player, who will then choose a card the same as the previous player. This continues till each player has passed his turn. Once all the cards have been laid out in a similar fashion, the dealer will announce the deal. The player can then announce his choice of card from one of the piles or reveal his hand.

After the reveal, a second round of Fan Tan will begin. The players will then choose the cards they want to discard. The player who discarded the cards first is the first to reveal his cards. The person who got the most cards after that has to reveal his cards and the person with the least cards has to eliminate them. If the player who got the most cards discarded them, then the person with the least cards has to go on and choose someone else to be the player who gets to keep the cards.

On the last turn, if a player discarded any of the cards and the others did not, the last person has to reveal his cards. Fan Tan plays with sevens, the ace-of-swords being his most common card. This game is most commonly used in weddings, birthday parties and engagement parties as well as anniversary events.
