Bean Bag Football - Fan Tan
Fan Tan, sometimes Fann Tan, Fannie Tan or Fann Funn, is also known as bean counting. It is a classic Chinese gambling game where players guess the number of beans in the container. There are some similarities between Fan Tan and Bean counting however, it is completely different in regards to playing rules.

The source of fan-tan is not clear. Some believe the origins of the fan-tan are traced to China and Korea, while others claim it's an American invention. It was invented by Chinese gamblers during the latter part of the Qing Dynasty. They were interested in developing games of gambling that were more real for them to use. Thus, the first ever known game played by Fan Tan was in fact an exercise in bean counting. In order to make the game more real, they employed primitive gambling strategies such as rice pieces to show the presence or absence of beans.

Many variations of bean counting are available in the present, and all have different rules. The basic concept of the game is similar. The game is played with two teams consisting of ten men. Each team must run out of their decks before the other team can make another count. The team with the highest percentage of bean counts wins the game. There are different rules for each game, however the fundamental concept is the same. There are numerous variants to the game.

The game starts by having both teams stand front of ten numbered wooden bowls which are hollowed. Each of these cards has numbers on them which determine the hands that each player has been dealt. After all players have been dealt their turn the blinds are opened and the players are instructed to place their hands in the bowls.

If the guesses are similar, that is their hand and the team on the opposite side is required to guess the next card and do the same. The final card is dealt, and shows the hand of the other team. Fan Tan is played with great skill and strategy. It requires a lot of expertise to determine the hand selection as well as the bean counting and betting strategies. It is recommended to play the game with at least at least four or five players. Two teams are formed, each with a a fixed number of bean bags. One player is designated the master and is responsible for making sure that all players of the group count correctly. Anyone who does not participate in the counting is banned. They can only count only if they have at least a "handful" or more bags. This is to prevent people from evading the system by counting beyond is allowed. The master must be alert to detect any doubts among players in order to play the game effectively.

The greatest thing about this game is its ability to teach people how they can play it better. When more people are paying attention to the strategy employed, it means that fewer of them will be taking advantage of having a good time. This game can actually be quite amusing when everyone adheres to the rules of the game and puts in the appropriate efforts.
