How Important Is Toughness In The Game Of Basketball?
You all know what they say about people who do the same thing over and again but expect different results. This is often the traditional definition of "insanity." Unfortunately, many of our youth football coaches are suffering from this player decimating condition. They do the same thing year after year, but end up with the same frustratingly poor or choppy results. I did the post-season assessment during my first few years as a youth coach. I knew that I needed better football players to solve the problem. My thoughts were that all I needed to solve my problem was a better player for x, a better player for y, and more motivated kids. It was always the fault of the kids, I just needed a good team and we would succeed.

In the 90's, I coached in the only way that I knew: option football and "I" formation power. As an add-on to our "I", we bought a small spread shotgun package and ran a simple base 5-3-2 defense. We ran the same offense and used all the drills I had learned as a youth and high school football player. We even did a few of my old College drills for good measure. Our offensive output was often directly related to the talent levels and the size of the offensive line.
