Pink Salt is an interesting mineral. Its name comes from both the Latin and Greek words pinka (meaning "light purple") and salt. It was probably first discovered in the Himalayan region where ancient people were using it for medical treatment and for preparing food. Today, it's still popular as an alternative health treatment and is mined in the foothills of the Himalayas in Pakistan, India, China and Tibet.
Himalayan salt is pink salt mined in the Punjab region of Pakistan. The mineral, which frequently has a pinkish hue due to trace elements, is used mainly for food seasoning or to substitute refined table salt; however, it's also use is for various decorative lamps, spa treatment and as a body scrub. It's not clear whether its mineral content helps to prevent illness or whether it offers health benefits. Currently, there's no good reason to stop using salt.
Salt works by absorbing certain trace minerals and releasing negative ions. Magnesium, sodium, calcium, iron and potassium are some of the trace elements found in this mineral. Negative ions are positively charged ions that have the effect of attracting airborne pollutants such as dust, pollen and bacteria. Some research suggests that sodium helps to neutralize airborne pollutants, although this hasn't been proven conclusively.
Regular table salt doesn't contain trace minerals like these, which is why it's often referred to as being "saltier". Pink salt on the other hand contains magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride. Many people believe that the mineral is more nutritious than regular table salt. If you're interested in learning more about the health benefits of Himalayan salt, why not try incorporating it into your diet? It's easy: you can purchase it at any regular grocery store or cook it with a natural seasoning blend, such as cinnamon or ginger.
Himalayan salt has been used for centuries as a medicinal treatment. In fact, ancient Chinese texts reference the effects of using it on various illnesses. However, it's unclear whether it had any positive effects on the deadly plague that was sweeping across Asia in those years. The bulk of Asian diseases, including measles, had been wiped out when regular table salt wouldn't have been used, but Himalayan salt continued to be used because it contained a high level of the mineral that was effective against germs.
Today, many experts agree that a small amount of Himalayan salt will do nothing to help you get rid of a cold or an infection. As a matter of fact, most experts agree that you're better off eating regular table salt instead. That's because salts from this mineral are too dense to be able to penetrate your body's cells. Therefore, they have no effect on your blood pressure, your cholesterol, or your digestive system. And since trace minerals are required to maintain good health, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by eating regular table salt instead.
However, low-sodium diets do have their place. If your regular table salt intake is less than two grams per day, then you shouldn't worry about the effects of consuming it. But if your sodium intake is much higher, then you should cut down to at least ten percent of your daily sodium intake and see what happens.
Even though Himalayan salt may not do anything to help with any condition, it still provides some health benefits. For example, it has been shown to improve fatigue. This is likely due to the trace mineral elements that it contains. However, any good detoxification process will help you get rid of toxins and improve your overall health.
