Sizing Up Your Poker Competition
If you have taken down a few pots without showdowns recently, some opponents will spite-call you. They'll get angry and call because they are sick and tired of you c-betting. Sometimes they'll even mention it in the chat box. It can be tempting to bet just to irritate them even further but that's useless. They are already upset and probably playing poorly. If you don't have a piece of the board and suspect you're up against a spite-caller, don't make the c-bet.

You will eventually get it right more times then you think. "He has a pair of queens" or "I think he is drawing for a straight" are examples of what your internal chatter should sound like.

Has this person always had a big stack (indicating a good player)? Are they short (indicating a bad player)? Are click here tall because of a recent lucky win or have they built it over time? Are they short because of a recent bad beat or have they been losing constantly?

Your objective is to see many flops. You will raise any unraised pot you enter and will be willing to call raises. On the flop you continue to bet and raise aggressively. Understanding where you are in the hand is crucial! Your aggression will get you lots of little pots and your chip stack should grow. The downside is that people will get tired of your constant aggression and start playing back at you.

Now if you were vigilant in watching your opponents' actions in the early stages, the game will be easier to manipulate. Use your observations to your advantage. Knowing who calls a lot, who you can bluff, and whom you need to keep an eye on will determine the amount you will have for the next round.

Being on the button is often considered to be the best betting condition. Why is this? Well simply because you get to see how everyone else is betting before you make your decision. Here's an example of using the button to your advantage. You are on the river and you have top pair. There has been a lot of betting so far but on the river everyone checked around the table. A carefully placed bet here can secure the pot for you. A good amount is around half the pot size if you want people to call and about the size of the pot if you are trying to scare people off of it.

Sometimes using bluffs can be a boost to your poker betting strategy for Texas Hold'Em. It is important to remember that bluffs will work best when they are unexpected, if you bluff too often no one will fall for your tricks. On the flip side, if you never use bluffs and bet on a good hand, other players are more likely to pick up on the hand and fold rather than bet against you.

Fixed limit games are the most common types of Texas Hold'Em games. In fixed limit games, there are two different betting amounts, the low and the high betting amounts. For example, if you were playing Texas Hold'Em at a $10-$20 table, the first betting rounds all the bets would have to be made in $10 increments. So if the bet is currently at $10, you could only raise it to $20 or call. Dependent upon the game you are playing, at some point in the game the betting limit would double, so that all the bets would then be made at $20.
