$500k in 31 days with Google Ads

google ad words agency

Crossing £385k+ ($500k+) in a single month with 95% coming from Google Ads has been a journey of its own. However, at the end of the day, it has been extremely fulfilling.
In my last post, I talked about a few important things: launching smart shopping campaigns instead of the generic standard shopping campaigns this ad account was used to, optimizing every two to three days due to the high ad spend, and scaling with Search ads.
In this post, I want to cover the exact layout I had for the smart shopping campaigns, how we were using my other standard shopping strategies to scale this account, and how we were able to maintain a positive ROAS while scaling aggressively.
First things first, for the entire month, we focused our attention on ONLY 4 campaigns: 1 smart shopping campaign, 2 standard shopping, and 1 dynamic display retargeting campaign.
For the smart shopping campaign, the client wanted us to only focus on one product category within the overall niche. Knowing that the previous results before we began had been extremely bad when it comes to standard shopping, we decided to go the smart route.
Now keep in mind, smart campaigns don't just work for any ad account; you need to have some initial data.
This data can be from other advertising platforms as well; as long as you have some (50+ sales) and Google analytics installed, this strategy should work.
Once you ensure this, the next step is to choose a product category you want to focus on. Since most Google Ads run eCom stores are not one product stores, this should not be too difficult.
You want to pick a product category which is already generating sales.
Once the category is outta the way, the next step is to set up your Smart shopping campaign. Make sure to write an effective product category related ad copy when creating the smart campaign and choose only those products within one category. For settings, here's what worked best for us:
$50/d+ daily ads budget (On this account, we started it at $500/d)
Targeting 1 country only
TROAS box unchecked
Bidding: Maximize conversion value
Optimize for online purchases from new customers box unchecked
Target: Presence: People in or regularly in your targeted locations
From the 2 standard shopping campaigns we had running, 1 was for another product category within the overall niche. However, this was a standard shopping campaign running at manual cpc and you can see the difference in cpps in the screenshot below.
This one had a ~£173 cpp when the products within this campaign actually cost less than those in the first products at a ~£93 cpp.
When smart campaigns become smart, they absolutely crush it. As of now, we're focusing on lowering that ~£173 cpp. The other standard shopping campaign was the famous low bid campaign I always recommend - a bid of $0.10 only. No sales from that due to high ticket nature of this store.

To close things off, we had a dynamic display campaign running for warm and hot traffic. This one had spent only £148 - not much traction overall.
As of right now, the main goal here is to continue lowering the cost per purchases of the second campaign and make the first campaign even more profitable than what it is now. For optimization, we like to keep the process extremely simple.
Due to high budgets, we check the campaigns every 3 days and cut off ALL products that match the following:
Cost per purchase greater than our desired profitable cpp
More than 750 impressions with 0 clicks
Less than 0.1% ctr overall
For the standard shopping campaigns, we exclude the bad keywords every 3 days. Aside from that, we do not make significant edits as we believe in the 80/20 rule; focus your attention on what's bringing in 80%+ of the results.
Congrats, you made it to the end. But what’s next? How can you get results similar to these?
Our team over at Yoru Marketing is taking on three new clients for the month (that are already doing $30,000+ per month in revenue) to help scale further with the Google Ads agency.
