The Professional Gambler
I'd like to begin by telling you who this piece is about, or rather, who this article isn't about. The professional gambler does not make a lot of public noise or attract attention to himself. The professional gambler does not make the high-roller wagers. The true pro is an eloquent, serious, quiet player. Professional gamblers understand that gambling is an enterprise. It is a profitable business.

Professional gamblers do not "go out to enjoy a whole day (or evening) of gambling." The professional wouldn't think that they'd be playing all night. In fact, a professional will usually know in the initial 30 minutes of play when it is time to stop playing or call it a day. When a professional gambler goes to gamble, it's solely to win, not to entertain his or her friends. This is work. It's a job. It is impossible to predict the time it takes for one to be able to win or to lose enough. However, an experienced player will recognize these limitations and will have the discipline and ability to act according to the rules.

It's possible that you've played with an expert at times. No, you probably would not be able to recall the experience. The only thing that could be noticed by professional players is the fact that he wins and then stops. The player isn't happy to play and keeps going because they are "out for a night" of gambling. Professional gamblers will go to movies or shows for entertainment if they are looking to be entertained. Gambling isn't an "activity" as many people think of it. You travel to Vegas or Atlantic City and you gamble all through the night. This is the way that recreational gamblers play. They find it very easy to rationalize...something like this; "Well I played all night and it only cost me $200. It's not too bad for a night of entertainment with no cost drinks." This is called the tourist mentality. You might hear stories of how someone was in Vegas and won thousands. It can happen. However, more likely than not, you hear the all too common tale that goes like this:
"I was up 3 or 4 hundred but I lost everything back." player games is rare to have a professional make a claim like that. If someone is betting for money and realizes that 3-4 hundred dollars is an acceptable profit and will soon be gone.

The professional gambler is a combatant of the guerrilla. They're not in it to play for a long time. Professionals are playing to be successful. It's not that long to be a winner or loser, and definitely not every day. It is possible that they can get a winning streak and believe me, the pros will be able to recognize it and ride it to the end. But most of the time the winning streak of a professional will last only long enough for them to make profits or be unable to make the maximum profit for the day. The casino cannot ever be able to see the amount of money professionals win. The professional is far more intelligent than the casino a chance.

As far as systems go professionals are too smart to think that there's actually an algorithm that will consistently beat the casinos no matter which game you're playing. Instead professional gamblers utilize tested strategies and betting strategies to enhance his or her odds of winning. There are a few decisions to be made in the course of play. Most of the pro's decisions are made before they approach the game. They'll stick to their basic strategies, betting techniques or progress. There is no way to witness the pros "chase his winnings." A professional canand will be willing to accept a small loss. It's a fact of life. I prefer to compare the professional gambler with salespeople who work on commission. There will be days where you earn little or none at all, and may make losses if travel costs are included. A professional gambler is able to see the overall sum of the game. It is not "how much did I win or lose today?" instead, it is more of, "how much am I ahead for the next month or the entire year?"

Professional poker players are a subject I would like to mention. They're a class by themselves! Some poker players do not consider themselves to be gamblers. business ideas consider poker to be an activity that requires skill and they're extremely proficient. Professional poker players isn't like the one I wrote in the previous paragraph. In the near future, I'll likely write an article about the subject. They are indeed an amazing breed!
