Guess what I have first period, that’s right! Bodyshop! The most horribly painful class in the world. As we go for our bi-daily 6k run, I can only think of despair as my legs feel like they are going to break. Running through on the pavement on a hot day feels like running through quicksand, slowly, slowly I begin to drown. By the time I reach the last kilometre, I feel like I am lost in a deep dark abyss. I feel lightheaded and do not know where I am going, but suddenly I see my friend infront of me and he leads the way.
When I return from my run, I then enter the torture chamber known as the gym. There are articulate machines everywhere, just staring at me, waiting to whip me into shape. Everything is dark and dreary as if I was actually entering some sort of dungeon. The only light I could see is the one bulb on the celling and the rest is darkness. Unexpectedly, a very potent stench enters the room and I look back to see zombies, lying down on the floor, exhausted after the long run. As I walk through the gym, looking for the machine to begin my workout, I hear a creaking noise, followed by a long thud. I look around to see what the noise was and what I witness is truly horrible. A monster was benching over 170 pounds! It was quite frightening, but at the same time a very spectacular sight. After witnessing such an event, I return back to looking for my own machine. I finally stumble upon the shoulder press. While sitting down into the deep seat of the machine, I feel as I am locked onto the seat, unable to escape and forced to workout. I begin my first set. The excruciating pain is unbearable. As I push-up against the machine the gravity drags me down. I hear a snap! And my bones crumble to the ground. All that remains is my defeated body, left there, sitting down on the machine.
I as well as many other people experience such horror because ultimately our society has become very lazy. We are always on our devices texting or watching videos when really we should be getting outside and doing something active. When we are forced to do hard physical activity (as I do in body shop class) it is very tough for us as our bodies are not used to it. My generation is too engrossed in technology and we fail to realize that there is more to life than simply scrolling through your twitter feed.
This picture uses dark and slightly blue tinted lighting to create a very mysterious and dark effect. By doing so, the machines in the picture seem as if they were torture weapons, rather than exercising equipment. By depicting the exercise machines as dangerous tools, further enhances how cold, dark and inescapable bodyshop class is. Moreover, the lighting of the picture also gives off the dungeon effect because dungeons are usually depicted as very cold, dark and inescapable places. Similarly, the gym is also portrayed as a cold and dark place that is inescapable as I can only be dismissed by the school bell. This picture truly captures how I feel about bodyshop class as it displays how tough and painful working out can be though the use of a mysterious, dungeon like effect.
