A former sales executive, U.S. Navy navigator, and member of Andre Dubus's writers workshop, James Whitfield Thomson is a debut novelist. His first novel, "The Jukebox King," is being revised by Sourcebooks and is currently in development for the screen. In addition to writing novels, Thomson is also a member of the writer's collective Agni. He lives in Natick, Massachusetts.
James Whitfieldthomson and raised in Pittsburgh, Jim Whitfield Thomson attended Harvard College on a full scholarship. After a career in the Navy, he completed his Ph.D. in American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He taught at the University of Miami and worked for a start-up in Atlanta. In 2008, he moved to Boston and joined a start-up company as a salesman. Since then, James Whitfieldthomson has published several short stories in literary magazines, and he has won a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant.

The novel is based on a real-life story published in the late 1990s in The Boston Globe about two daughters, who turned out to be successful women, yet were stubbornly avoiding their mother. While he continues to work in his field, he has also written fiction. In addition to his novels, he has published a novel and several short stories. Andre Dubus's "Writer's Workshop" grant helped him complete the manuscript.
