North Raleigh venomous zebra cobra hunt is over after glue trap takes care of the problem.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

I feel a lot safer, said she. I feel extremely happy. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.

A person hit by the poison would experience pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.

At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

The cobra in this species usually does not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.

The snake is not recommended as a pet by Locke due to its risk.

Most bites occur when a person is sleeping. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.

Police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place on Tuesday, near where the cobra was last seen.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.

The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
