North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.

911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

The ordeal is over at last, said neighbor Joan Nelson.

She said she felt safe and really happy. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.

The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.

Even a morning dog walk can prove dangerous for this snake, a zebra cobra that can spit up to nine feet. It is a very dangerous snake according to the African Snakebite Institute. A victim's nervous system could be shut down by the venom.

An immediate reaction to the poison of a cobra is pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.

Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.

Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.

The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

It has been reported that police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near the location where the cobra was last spotted.

logan snake catcher Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. The zebra cobra was found about a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
