One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

The glue was removed from the cobra's body after being guided into a red bucket and brought to a safe location.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.

The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. It feels good to be able to walk on the deck and outside. However, I feel bad for the snake.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. Venom can cause the nervous system to shut down in victims.

One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.

Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.

Cobras of this type are rarely known to bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.

Due to its dangers, Locke advises against keeping this snake as a pet.

Bite incidents are most common during sleep. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.

There was an animal issue at that home in March. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.

The county records indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at this address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

His TikTok account has more than 460000 followers. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
