One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

A red bucket was used to place the cobra in the bucket and to transport it to a location where all glue could be removed.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

The city of Raleigh, N.C., is the state capital. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.

She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

One zebra cobra has gone missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where there is a striped snake on a porch.

The snake, a zebra cobra, is extremely fast and can spit up to nine feet away, making a walk with the dog even scarier. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.

An enthusiastic veterinarian, Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.

According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.

This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. logan snake catcher They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.
