When it comes to fake news, there are two different kinds
stories and information that is completely and factually untrue
Stories and information that are true, but not one hundred percent factual and have some details about it that are false
How to find false information in a piece of media/an article/a video etc
Check the source!
If a source doesn’t seem familiar, look into it, try to see if the website is legit or if it seems sketchy, if there are spelling mistakes or inconsistencies in the URL of a website, it might not be genuine. For example, if it's an .edu or university website, it's probably more genuine than a .org url. Sometimes people will even create a fake website that looks almost identical to a genuine source. If you're not sure, make sure to check the actual site to cross-reference and be sure.
Check the author!
If you find a source that looks legit, but you can't be sure, check out the author, if they've written past articles where there's false information, or omitted information, it's likely that they're going to do the same thing in all of their articles
See if other people are reporting on it!
If it's real, surely other people would be reporting on it, wouldn't they? If your source is the only one you can find about the news, then it's probably not real. News sources are normally very quick to report on breaking news stories, everyone wants to get the scoop first, and it wouldn't make sense if there's only the one source reporting it
Read more than just the headline!
This should perhaps be obvious, but a lot of headlines are written simply for clickbait and to catch people's attention. If you read a headline that seems absolutely outlandish, read the article; see if the title was just a lie to get people to read the actual contents of the article. If the article is still ridiculous, then it's most likely false or incorrect
Read other articles and cross-reference information!
If you think an article has information that might not be true, or that makes you skeptical, go check other sources to be sure. Sometimes fake news is only a small section of an article, doctored or changed to fit a narrative, so checking other sources to confirm if the information is real or not is important
