Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.

An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

ARLINGTON, N.C. Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.

As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

It was a relief to neighbor Joan Nelson to have the ordeal over.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. My deck and I have become more comfortable outside now. The snake, however, was in a terrible position.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.

The Avian and Exotic Animal Care is run by veterinarian Salina Locke, who treats all types of pets.

Cobras of this type are rarely known to bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, since their venom hits straight for the eye since they are so accurate.

The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

Bite incidents are most common during sleep. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

There was a police search of 6917 Chamonix Place Tuesday afternoon, near the street where the last sighting of the cobra was reported.

An animal problem led to four police visits in March. Zebra cobras were seen on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday, after this was initially reported.
