Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.
As WRAL's cameras captured it earlier in the day, a striped snake slithered out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive and onto a porch. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.
Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

North Carolina. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.
A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.
An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.
Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.
It makes me feel much safer, she said. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. Despite this, I feel sorry for the snake.

Normally, this cobra species does not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.
Due to its dangers, Locke advises against keeping this snake as a pet.

It was Tuesday afternoon when police conducted a search of 6917 Chamonix Place, near the street where the snake was last seen.
Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. On Monday and Tuesday, they returned after spotting the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.
TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
