North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

ARLINGTON, N.C. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, highlighting the nearly 48-hour ordeal across North Carolina.
As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.
A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.
A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.
It makes me feel much safer, she said. Now that I can go outside, I can walk on my deck and go outside. The snake, however, was in a terrible position.

Zebra cobras are fast, can spit up to nine feet, and can spit at high speeds, making even morning dog walks dangerous. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.
One would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting and diarrhea if stung by a cobra's poison. Following a heavy fever and breathing problems, you might lose your breath and may die.
The Avian and Exotic Animal Care is run by veterinarian Salina Locke, who treats all types of pets.
Cobras typically do not bite. The venom sprays more readily, since it is so accurate. they aim right for the eyes, she said.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.
Sleeping is the most common time when people are bitten. Bite victims can experience health problems for decades, research shows.
There was a police search of a home near 6917 Chamonix Place where a cobra was last observed on Tuesday afternoon.
This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. Zebra cobras were seen on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday, after this was initially reported.
The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.
The TikTok account of Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. The author of the post claims to have a seven-foot zebra cobra.
