How to Start Affiliate Marketing Blog
Affiliate marketing is a way to make money by promoting other company's product. This, in turn, is an easy way to earn cash online without having your own products or services. You can do this by creating your own blog. All you need is some time and dedication to learn the craft of affiliate marketing. I'll show you how this process works for new bloggers so you can get started right away!

From here on out, I will be referring to blogging as my "online business" because it is one of the ways my husband and I do make an income online. Affiliate marketing just happens to be the focus in this post!
My New Blogging Journey

In the summer of 2013, my husband Patrick and I decided to take the plunge and begin our own online business. The start-up costs were low - all we purchased was a domain name for $13.99 from Go Daddy and a year's subscription to WordPress for $99.95 from Bluehost.com. Once we purchased the domain and WordPress, we uploaded articles, including our "About" page, to the homepage. This page is a landing page that is not connected to any of my content on the blog. This way any visitor to my site has a good impression of me and will be interested in my blog posts.

I purchased an ad from Google AdSense for $50 per year [that paid us $50 per month]. This allowed us to monetize our site by advertising blogs from around the web that I thought had great information and interesting topics and wrote interesting guest posts. We also purchased an ad to increase the number of subscribers on my blog. This was $25.00 per month. I chose to use these because it took the risk out of trying to get people to view my content and because it ensured that I was getting traffic to my site, something that can be very difficult for new bloggers.

Next, you need to formulate a plan for your blog. Decide what your focus is going to be and which topics you want it to encompass. Then make sure you make your site easy for readers to navigate; pick a color scheme that works, decide how many posts you want per week, and decide how many categories you will have under each topic on your blog. Once this is done, it is time to take the leap. You have to jump out into the water and just do it!

I have learned that you have to be consistent in posting on your site. Don't spend weeks not blogging, then post 9 posts in 3 days. It's better to post 1-2 times per week so that your readers come to expect your content and can look forward to visiting your site for updates.

Set up a schedule for yourself, but don't be afraid to change it if something comes up. For me, I typically write one post per week Monday-Wednesday for promotion Thursday-Sunday. I like to take days off, as well as set aside time for blogging and for working on my affiliate sites. This schedule kept my posts on schedule but allowed for me to work around life's little curveballs.

It is easy to create engaging content. Whether it is a blog, website, social media post, or image all you need to do is think creatively. At the start of any project, have a clear idea of what you want to write about and how you will say it.

I used LinkedIn (and I still do) to find like-minded folks who are passionate about many of the same topics as I am and who might be interested in joining forces on my blog.
