VUB yang merupakan hasil kerja sama perakitan antara Dinas Perkebunan Sumatera Selatan dengan Balai Penelitian Tanaman Industri dan Penyegar (Balittri) sejak 2017 itu adalah Kobura 1, Kobura 2 dan Kobura 3.
Dilansir laman Balitbangtan, keunggulan dari tiga VUB itu antara lain karakteristik cita rasa dengan kategori fine robusta atau sangat baik. Kopi baru ini juga memiliki produktivitas tinggi yaitu 2,09-2,76; 1,32-1.83; dan 1,54-1,90 ton/ha biji kering untuk masing-masing untuk Kobura 1, Kobura 2 dan Kobura 3.

Kobura telah lulus sidang pelepasan varietas 28 April 2021 di The Sahira Hotel Bogor. VUB ini juga berpotensi sebagai sumber benih unggul bermutu khususnya untuk mendukung program peremajaan kopi di daerah OKU Selatan atau daerah lain yang memiliki kondisi serupa.
Varietas unggul baru kopi robusta (Balitbangtan)
Tim peneliti pemulia Kobura dari Balittri terdiri dari Ilham Wicaksono, SP., MP., Ir. Enny Randriani, Dr. Meynarti SDI, Dani M.Sc dan lainnya.
Hortikultura Mereka berharap ketiga klon kopi Robusta lokal OKU Selatan itu dapat menjadi salah satu bukti nyata pemerintah dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan petani di Sumatera Selatan serta berkembangnya ke seluruh daerah yang adaptif terhadap Robusta.
