Minecraft: What A Mistake!
Mojang Studios, developer of Minecraft, is reorganizing the blocky world that was the basis of the game's "Minecraft" and changing the way the sandbox-game scales for its millions.

The long-awaited update "Caves and Cliffs" will see the engine create deeper caves and higher mountains that players can explore. It will also introduce new species of fauna and flora to the game. Wednesday's announcement by the company stated that they will release the update on Nov. 30.

When someone starts a world in "Minecraft," the game uses procedural generation to create the forests, rivers, caves and mountains across the map. Over the past 12 years, "Minecraft" has introduced environments like deserts and oceans for players to explore but the developers at Mojang are now expanding the upper and lower limits of the world in order to generate peaks and valleys that previously were not possible in the game.

Every month, more than 100 million players play "Minecraft". This low-fi, blocky game features a network of servers that players can connect to and build on. During mcpe monster -19 pandemic, students at UC Berkeley held a virtual graduation ceremony within a "Minecraft” server. Players have built and rebuilt the famed Harry Potter castle of Hogwarts, Notre Dame, the Empire State building and even ancient Rome. It's hard to find a well-known building -- real life or fictional -- that doesn't exist somewhere on some "Minecraft" server.

"For a whole generation of kids, that's kind of where they go," said Kurt Squire, a professor at University of California Irvine who studies how games can be used to help students learn. It is literally their playground, the sandbox where they grew up.

The game's simplicity is partly responsible for "Minecraft"'s booming success. There are no tasks or objectives in "Minecraft". (There is, however, a boss. It is completely optional.) You decide what to explore or build. But with every update, there's an inherent risk that the game becomes too complicated for first-time players to understand. Agnes Larsson, "Minecraft's" game director, said this is something about which the team at Mojang Studios spends a lot of time thinking. Although the team is keen to continue developing "Minecraft" over the next "many, many more years", Larsson stated that they must maintain the foundation principles of the game to keep it "Minecrafty."

Larsson stated, "We have something amazing." It's a beautiful game, but there are many things we could do to improve it.

Larsson is currently working on a creative direction for the game "to really help us evolve," while protecting the simplistic beauty of "Minecraft." Larsson often talks about "intrinsic motivation," encouraging players to build or explore by providing the right setting for their imaginations.

Larsson stated, "What new ways can we inspire our players be creative in their own way and come up with goals of their own?" Larsson said, "How can we encourage more exploration and more storytelling?"

Long-time players are making money building for 'Minecraft'

The "Caves and Cliffs” update will increase the world's height and distribute how ore like iron, copper, and gold will be generated throughout the game. Spelunkers who enjoy digging into "Minecraft"'s caves will find huge, multi-tiered caverns filled with aquifers. They also have hanging vines, stalactites and dripping stalactites depending on where they are located on the map. Larsson also said that certain biomes can now be combined so that a desert or forest could grow on the side of a mountain.

Fans are referring to the update, technically listed as version 1.18 of the game, as "Minecraft 2.0." Rob Clark, a 35-year-old from Somerset, England, said he's looking forward to playing the update on the same server with his brother and nephew. The three of them have been playing together for a year now, since the United Kingdom went into lockdown for a second time because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"He's quite young," Clark said, referring to his 9-year-old nephew. "He's very happy just to mess around with villages and dig little holes through a rock. ... But, you know what? I'm spending four hours with my nephew. It's a nice time with our family that we wouldn't have otherwise."

'Minecraft Dungeons,' a family-friendly Diablo clone, points to the future of the brand

Dash Marley, a 27-year-old who lives in Maine, has already tried out an early release of the update to test out the updated terrain generation. Marley, who has been playing "Minecraft", off and on for more than a decade, stated that it is the most significant, "most sweeping" change "Minecraft has made to the game’s overworld. (Yes, there is an underworld.

Marley stated, "I flew above a dark forest that opened up into a multi-tiered series lush caves." "In this new universe, I can't travel more than 10 minutes before seeing a place that makes it feel like I want to spend hours and hours making it a new base."

Larsson stated that Mojang Studios tries to offer something for everyone with each update. Mojang revealed that next year's update "The Wilds" will add more biomes and animals to the game. This was announced at the 10th annual "Minecraft” Live in Oct.

Larsson stated that they do not want to use too many premade structures and towns. This would limit the possibilities for players to create their own towns and structures. Larsson wants to make sure that the world remains wild for a player to explore.

"We should inspire, but we shouldn't dictate. Larsson stated that it is up to the players for them to set their own goals. It's inspiring to think up your own goals.
