My story isn't particularly long. I was born, went through school, got a job, and then finally got some information online. However, it does include certain traumatic events that made me believed that my life was over. One such moment was when my computer at home was unable to function. After a bit of fiddling, shifting my old desktop to the new one, and a bit more tinkering, I was eventually capable of restoring the entire work on that drive. It took me three days of sweating and tears. However, I did learn one important lesson: Dropbox and personal file servers are a great way to automate or manually back up my work from the day.
This is definitely not the ideal solution. The more information you store online, the more money it costs to keep everything on the internet. It's easy to use and it seems very safe. It's also very easy to download from any internet-connected device. What happens where internet access isn't available? I'm glad to keep my laptop with me in those instances. It is my last reliable backup source. There are 2 drives coupled as RAID stack, which means they copy each other and make sure that 1 copy is left in case one of the 2 HDDs is damaged. Because I rarely copy my laptop's contents my laptop, I've made it so that the two drives do not get separated at the same time.
Another great day of sorrow came few years ago. I'm very careful not to lose the work I've done. As I mentioned I've copied it numerous times and can access it instantly wherever the internet is available. It was Periscope. It was something I often used several years ago. Even in summer, when there were riots in the city, I was able stream a few live streams. Now Periscope TV is closing down and all the videos will be gone within a couple of weeks. What can I do? To save the videos that are offline on my laptop, I must download all of them. They are very important to me. This was the last time we had a night out with my friend.
The site is one that I frequent. It allows me to download videos from Youtube and Instagram, as well as Facebook - which are some of the platforms where I keep most of my live streams. I am very involved with underground movements, politics and so I film often, save them, and then upload them to my YouTube channel. Then, every time the live event is over, it goes into my laptop. This is just what I do. It allows me not only to share YouTube videos on Facebook but also to upload the video on Facebook. The video can be then its own video. Over the last 8 years, I've had 3TB worth of live streams. Periscope lives don't disappear.. I find this site extremely useful.
It's a breeze. You can play the video you want to download on Periscope, Youtube, or Facebook. Copy the URL by using the share link. I then navigate to the video-downloader site then paste the video URL there, and in a matter of seconds I'll see a variety of options to download video. I can save it to my desktop or laptop, and copy it across platforms, and save it for my family and friends ones. Periscope isn't available on every site.
You can use windows copy to join these pieces and then create a normal 1 long video file. This is due to the format used to create the fragments: MpegTS, which is also known as transport stream. It contains all the information required for decoding video in each of the fragments and makes them separate from the stream itself so that each new user can start streaming from the middle without delay. However, it can help browsers save data transfer, because instead of one hour of data, it gets 360 x 10 seconds long files. It only downloads those you are watching. So, when you only watch 25 seconds of the stream, your player will download only 4-6 pieces (it receives 3-4 fragments from the 25 second stretch currently in play, plus 1-2 following fragments in the event that you continue viewing the stream). This allows you to save lots of data by downloading just 25 seconds of video stream.
