Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. Looking around, its hood was visible as it lifted its head.

After confirming it was a snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back of the area and attempted to capture it there.
Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.
A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.
When Animal Control officers confirmed the snake was the one they moved camera crews back before they attempted to catch it.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

Joan Nelson expressed relief that the ordeal is over.
'I feel very safe now,' she said. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. The African Snakebite Institute reports that this snake is very dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.
An experienced veterinarian, Dr. Salina Locke, treats all kinds of pets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Care.
Normally, this cobra species does not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, since their venom hits straight for the eye since they are so accurate.
Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.
Most bites occur when a person is sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.
In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.

There was an animal issue at that home in March. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.
Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. In one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot-long zebra cobra.
