Nowadays, the use of modern technology, especially social media, to communicate has increasingly risen to prominence. I think this evolution has significantly improved our connections. In this essay, I will shed more light on their advantages and disadvantages.

Let us begin by looking at the benefits of using these websites. Firstly, while the ways in which we connected and how many people we reached were limited in the past, the latest technology has provided endless ways to connect. As a result, we are more connected than ever. In other words, we can speak with friends and family who are living far away at any time, using an increasing number of tools bridging distances.

Furthermore, we do not know exactly what technology has in store for us, but doubtlessly the future will see more new products that will change the way we communicate with each other and with machines. For example, projecting yourself to another location using holographic displays may be commonplace.

On the other hand, some people may argue that there are some challenges to be overcome. For instance, modern communication means, including social media, have lessened the quality of connection. What I mean is, our communication has become less meaningful as our social skills are challenged to the point that many, particularly teenagers, may struggle to interact in traditional, in-person conversations. Consequently, they do not usually communicate with people around them in the real world.

In a word, modern technology, especially social networks, have their positives like improving communication, extending the range of people we can reach, and so on. However, there is the downside of challenging our ability to make meaningful connections. In my opinion, as long as moderation is exercised to balance between both virtual and face-to-face communication, modern technology should not cause any harm to a wise user.
