I've tried putting in a new battery, and using a different adapter, but nothing works. My old adapter for the M911G type battery was a 45W adapter and so was giving this problem. I did everything recommended on this site including blowing in the power plug, restarting dismantling etc, installing a new BIOS without success. I have an XPS M1730, and bought 2 batteries and 2 chargers with the system. I have had 2 batteries that would not charge for at least the past 9 months.

I used my right finger to push the connector from the inside of the laptop against the front jack with my left hand holding charger connector. I saw the battery indicator showing charging. I shut the laptop off, disconnect the charger, removed the battery and with a pointed soldering iron I reheated the three solder connections behing the jack. Installed back the battery and plug the charger back, turn the laptop on, but to my surprise, it was not charging. Maybe the new battery I bought from Ebay is not OEM direct replacement but just compatible. So I clicked to Control Panel function of the laptop and uninstalled the battery and the charger from the Device Manager under Battery sub-menu.

No lights to me means it's something beyond a simple RAM or Hard disk drive issue. Hold your power key for a minute and let the battery drain. When you are installing any windows OS, make sure that it is completely installed.
