A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
A red bucket was used to place the cobra in the bucket and to transport it to a location where all glue could be removed.
Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

N.C., Raleigh Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.
Glue was removed from the cobra's body by placing it in a red bucket and moving it to a safe location.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.
On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.
It makes me feel much safer, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. In the opinion of the African Snakebite Institute, snakes are very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.
Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In addition to a heavy fever and breathing problems, respiratory failure could also result.
Veterinary specialist Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets at Avian and Exotic Animal Care in Nashville, Tennessee.
There is no evidence that this species of cobra bites. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.
Bite incidents are most common during sleep. A study shows that those who are bitten may suffer long-term health issues.
Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.
Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.
Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.
Chris Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
