My artist statement:

My work is... wow what a statement... I don't know. I'm in my house right now warming up to writing, with a five minute free write. Cold and heavy and sad, and it's so fuckign dark and not cozy in here at all anf fuckign cold and dead and boring... no fuckign community. Yes I miss the cafes, the night life, the seeing random people and hearing and feeling them all around and within... I msis the different kind of sadness of being lonely in a city, I miss the smells of coffee that I never drank, the rush, the colors and coincidence meetings and strangers asking me to listen to their original music on their computers and falling into a two hour conversation. I miss that yet, but home is family, home is darkness, fall is darkness. No sun, inside all day. Last night the neighbor who works for homeland security and her two kids came over and it was nice but nothing relaly, so empty so lost so far away... I went to body pump this morning which was also fine but terrible I mean empty as fuck just oding the damn moves and it feels good but meaningless. Completely utterly meaingless... I mean, I'm just going to get a "nicer" body. Which means skinny and semi toned, so that hot daddy black guys can fetishize me and I fetishize them in return and whatever the fuck and skinny with a big butt and smooth hairless ecept Asante, he likes me for me, he doesn;t mind sweat or shit or hair... hes real... my boyfriend too, he likes me and I love him and that's really fucking night. And yeah my head hurts and I want I want much more, I want clarity, I want to not regret, I want to know and speak and write out what I am who I am the stuffs that interest me honestly, the singing the play, the improvisation, converaiton, diologue, the characters and story lines emerging, the wildness, the touch, the raw vulnerability, you know, everything that happened in Faye's audition, except it would be better if... if there was less phrase work, more running, more yelling, more kinds of singing, like yearning, like spiritual heathing and wailing, moaning, deep breath slow transformation of states, bodily mental emotional states... on a deep physical fascial emotional scale... and if we did much more speaking, resonating from different parts of our body, finding our different voices and how the words came and character emerged from them... and then taking from Hilary's interest in piushing against the edges of vulnerability...

Put very simply, my work comes out of improvisational practices that for me come to my raw, wild, uninhibited and curious self. I;m intersted in when all of my senses are engaged, and when the world starts to spill, boundaries blur and knowledge leaks. I'm talking about that kind of improvisation where I can't stop talking to myself, in which I can't stop moving, in which I can't stop transforming. I'm talking about all of that.

I'm also talkign about my interest and curiosity about, not just curiosity but my work with lichens, you know and as an extension to them, with land and ecology... the ecology of dance, how through improvisation we practice becoming with one another, across species... land aknowledgement as a somatic practice, you know? That is what I want to continue.... practicing gratitude, having an extended audience beyond the human...
