<p class="p__0">BASIS Chandler in Arizona is at the top of the list for charter schools, and High Technology High School in Lincroft, New Jersey, is the No. 1 STEM school.</p>

<p class="p__1">Portsmouth High School ranked the highest in the county both statewide and nationally in the just recently launched 2021 United States News &amp; World Report High School rankings. It was the only Newport County public school to break the top 10 in Rhode Island. United States News &amp; World Report released its 2021 Best High Schools report, which assesses over 17,800 public high schools throughout the country in how well schools serve their students.</p>

<p class="p__2">News evaluates the portion of trainees who took at least one Advanced Positioning test, passed a minimum of one AP test, college readiness, the percentage of mathematics and checking out efficiency among students, and the high school's total graduation rate. Schools then receive a scorecard and rankings based on their performance in each location.</p>

<p class="p__3">Portsmouth High School received a 92. 82 out of 100 on its U.S. News scorecard, offering it the fourth-highest score of the 59 schools ranked in Rhode Island and the number 1,283 spot in the nationwide rankings. In individual categories, Portsmouth ranked fourth in the state for both college readiness and the portion of trainees who took and passed a minimum of one AP examination, 6th in math and reading efficiency and 25th in mathematics and reading performance.</p>

Portsmouth, which has the largest student body in the county, has the most affordable percentage of financially disadvantaged trainees of Newport County public schools at 10% and the second-lowest percent of minority student registration at 7%. <p class="p__5">Tiverton has a 93% graduation rate, the 21st greatest in the state, and ranked in the leading 20 in the state for all other ranking factors. The greatest ranking the school got was # 14 for mathematics and reading efficiency among trainees. Tiverton has the 2nd most affordable percent of financially disadvantaged trainees in the county at 19% and the least expensive student-teacher ratio at 10:1.</p>
