In john Steinbeck's novel of 'of mice and men' characters experience prejudice because of their gender or race. For example, Curley's wife experiences prejudice on the ranch because she is a women. George says to Lennie "Don't you even take a look at that bitch." before he even gets to know her. George is one of the nicest characters on the ranch and by calling her a "bitch" which is an offensive term to call a women shows how she gets pulled away and rejected. Also by Curley's wife getting called a 'bitch' tells the reader that she is dressed up in a provocative way to drag attention. This will make the reader agree with george and think that she is dangerous and shouldn't be talked to. However later on, on the novel we hear Curleys wife side of the story and begin to understand why she behaves inappropriately. When Curley's wife says to Lennie "I ain't told this to nobody" shows how excluded she has been because she hasn't had an opportunity to express herself. The word "nobody" reveals that she doesn't trust her own husband, someone we would expect her to trust fully. By her telling Lennie the things shes supposed to tell her husband shows how desperate she is for someone to talk to. someone, anyone who will listen to her, see things from her side and be her friend.
