4. Festival Bernard Dimey May awaiting Dates 2013 (10th-13th May 2012).

A celebration dedicated to the memory of Bernard Dimey, the Nogent poet. Each year, prizes are handed out to the most talented young people from spring-board events.


Born on the 16th of July 1931, in what was then Nogent-en-Bassigny which is now Nogent, Bernard Dimey was a French poet and music composer. The festival focuses on poetry and songs with the younger folk in mind. The poet died in Paris 1st July 1981.


5. 3. Sedan Medieval Festival (19th-20th May 2012).

Built over six centuries in the past built around six centuries ago, the Sedan Castle Fort is the biggest European castle with a 35,000m2 area. It is situated in central Sedan, making it an ideal location for the festival of medieval times.


The festival takes place both within the castle fortress as well as in the town, and each year the festival organizers come with a new themed delight. A dragon of the size of a full fire was created in 2011 and the gigantics of the north were introduced in.


Imagine you are transported back to medieval times, and witness the medieval activities and games, like flag-throwing, jousting and cavalry games. Street theatre is a great option to experience the atmosphere of medieval times. There is also the option to feast or drink and be drunk.

6. Joan of Arc Festival, early June (2nd to 3rd June 2012)

The Joan of Arc Festival is one of France's most significant festivals. Reims is the city where Reims recognizes its heroine.


It's a spectacular sight to see more than 2000 people dressed up in historic costumes to parade alongside Charles VII and Joan of Arc.


A variety of performances celebrate the patron saint of the city who took it away from the English in the 15th century. You can have some fun French-English rivalry if you're British and plan to attend this celebration. Have fun with the locals and the good vibe of the occasion!

8. Ay Champagne Festival (every 2nd year, 1st weekend July and next year in 2014)

Ay is considered to be the best champagne village in the region. It also has Bollinger, Gosset, and Ayala along with Deutz &amp; Gelderman.


This festival is a mix of bubbly champagne, as well as bubbly entertainment. It is worth putting a few weeks apart in July 2014 to enjoy this amazing festival.


9. Clin d'oeil Festival in Reims 5th-7th July 2013, Reims.
