SariAgri - Ikan purba Coelacanth berusia 420 juta tahun kembali ditemukan oleh sekelompok pemburu hiu di Madagaskar, Afrika Selatan.
Penemuan ini pun sempat membuat geger, lantaran sempat dianggap sudah punah. Di mana sebelumnya, Coelacanth terakhir ditemukan pada tahun 1938.
Melansir laman Unilad, awalnya sekelompok nelayan menebar jaring di di lepas pantai Madagaskar, Afrika Selatan untuk memburu hiu. Namun, tanpa disangka jaring tersebut justru membuat nelayan menemukan ikan purba.
"Ketika kami (nelayan) melihat ini lebih jauh, kami sangat terkejut," ujar Andrew Cooke, seorang Ahli Biologi dan Penulis Studi Terbaru yang diterbitkan di South African Journal of Science.

Penemuan Coelacanth bisa menjadi sumber penelitian baru bagi ilmuwan serta merupakan pembuktian jika ikan purba ini belum punah.
Namun, di balik kabar gembira tersebut, ilmuwan juga tetap mengkhawatirkan jaring nelayan akan merusak keberlangsungan hidup ikan-ikan langka yang terbilang hampir punah. berita perikanan terkini
Oleh karena itu, konservasi harus dilakukan agar Coelacanth bisa dilindungi, serta mencegah perburuan besar-besaran terhadap ikan purba ini.
