Learning the Basics of Social Activism Involves Public Speaking

Social activism is an intentional act with the goal of bringing about meaningful, lasting social change through peaceful civil disobedience or other protests. Anyone with an opinion that they strongly believe in can easily become a social Activist, if they work persistently to make positive and effective change in the world. The concept of social activism goes back to the earliest American protest movements.


The history of social activism goes back hundreds of years to the early American Civil War. At that time African-Americans were fighting for equal rights with white Americans. This lead to the Martin Luther King Jr. Movement and other Civil Rights movements. Activists have also become vocal about social issues such as poverty, gay rights, and other social issues. Today, many activists are focused on things like animal rights, animal torture, and other issues that deal with cruelty to animals.

Social action can be measured in a variety of different ways. One way is to see how much support an issue has gotten. Another is to see how much popular support a social issue has received. These sites are excellent avenues for social activism because they provide an opportunity for activists to speak with one another without having to physically meet. By using these sites, activists can begin to build relationships with other people who have an interest in human rights or issues that affect their community.


Although it may seem strange, many types of social activism involve public speaking. Public speaking is an important component of many types of social activism. A person who wants to participate in an Activist's Project or an Advocates Project may need to do some public speaking to make sure that they are able to effectively communicate with their fellow activists. No matter what type of activism a person is engaged in, they are likely to benefit from learning the basics of public speaking.
