Guide to Famous Water Gardens

Water gardens or a garden pond, as they are sometimes called, are a thing of natural beauty. An ancient art form that originated in Japan and has continued to be passed on and refined in how it is done, there are many water gardens and fountains around the world. People have even created small ones to fit in their back gardens. Larger gardens can be found everywhere from parks to vacation destinations. There are many garden ponds around the globe that have become well known for their magnificent beauty.


The Biddulph Grange Garden is located in Staffordshire, England. One of the more unique and visually stimulating gardens in Britain, this Victorian garden takes visitors on a trip around the world. A quick trip through Biddulph and a visitor can see designs paying homage to Egypt, China and a Scottish valley. This garden is a survivor of the 19th century. The Chinese portion features a temple which is surrounded by its own Great Wall. It also showcases some oddities in a strange sculpture made of stone and a tree that is upside down. The Egyptian portion features a court and exotic plants and rare architecture.


Another of the world's most visually stunning gardens is Bodnant Garden located in Conwy, Wales. Work started on Bodnant back in 1875 and it features great views of Snowdonia as it is located atop the River Conwy. the watergardens at canberra showcases Italian style terraces and traditional lawns on the upper level, and a wood filled valley, with a stream and wild plant life on the lower level. This garden features colors that dramatically blaze through the seasons. From mid-May to early June visitors can find a long laburnum arch which is covered in shiny golden blossoms.


Hidote Manor Garden is located in Gloucestershire, England and has a unique setup in that the garden is divided up into different enclosures, each kind of like a different room in a house. Each section is different from the others in terms of characters, themes, and colors. A majority of the rooms feature traditional garden elements like hedges, shrubs and trees, although some rooms feature a garden pond or fountain. The Studley Royal Water Garden, located in North Yorkshire, England is perhaps the best example of a Georgian era water pond still surviving. Created in the 18th century, it has lakes, temples, avenues, and cascades and has been altered less than any other Georgian garden pond in England.
