Some of you may recall the succulent wreath you can make at the beginning of the year. You can also receive a few inquiries about what to do with the wreath once it has matured. This article will show you how to consider your wreath and update or maintain it once it has outgrown its original state.

They reside in an ideal climate for succulents in California: not too hot, not too cold. Because the wreath is in a shady spot, it receives some indirect light during the day. It has gotten a little increased out, and some of the plants have lost their color (most vividly colored succulents require a lot of light to keep their color), but it has still grown beautifully! So, here's how the wreath looked after a year of growth:

The methods for upgrading the wreath are now available! To begin, soak the wreath in water. Working with sphagnum moss is always easier when it's damp. You can eliminate some of the cobwebs and bugs on the plants by spraying the wreath with a hose. To get rid of mealybugs, spray the infested regions with alcohol to destroy them. It is also suggested pouring some drink on the wreath form itself to kill anything lurking in the roots.

After that, start clipping the succulents off. Leave about a half-inch of the stem in the wreath. Depending on how long it's been since you planted the wreath, these branches are quite likely to produce fresh rosettes! This will make the garland appear much fuller in the months to come. Leave some of the lower leaves clinging to the stems if feasible. They are more likely to form new rosettes in that location. You'll also want to leave the cutting with a long stem. This will make re-inserting the cutting into the wreath much easier later.

Allow the cuttings to dry for a day or two. If you put them in while they're still fresh cut, they'll decay. Soak your wreath once more after they've dried. As though you were building a new wreath, use the clippings to reassemble the wreath. Rather than putting the clippings back where they came from.

It will be interesting to witness the variety of plants as the wreath expands and perhaps additional rosettes sprout on the original stalks. The random stems seen in between the succulent cuttings can be seen below. Unless you examine the wreath very closely, they are barely apparent. The branches with leaves on them still blend in beautifully and add color and complexity to the wreath.

The best part about managing a succulent wreath like this is that it will grow in size year after year! Plus, it can last for years! You could even add new cuttings every year if you wanted to provide more variation.
