Here's a short story of my last trip to the Arctic by boat. It sounded wonderful National Geographic's expedition through the Arctic Ice with Polar bears. There was all kinds of ice and all over the place was snow. Man-made machines were designed to beat the elements and move through the frozen wilderness of the northern wilderness. It sounded like a huge undertaking, a grand fight with the weather and the pole.


I was told to take any technology that can be transported inside my bag. To increase the space I work in I packed my laptop. As per their report, power wasn't an issue. The idea of a trial - was still unconvinced to me.. I had no idea that two days into my 14-day trip I will lose my Internet connection and disappear off the face of the Earth for the next 10 days. When it did happen I was completely shocked. I was shocked that any trip, no matter how long or difficult, could cause a sudden disconnect from the technology world. It's not even the 21st century. Not only do I have unfinished business, but I was also not prepared for it.


It doesn't matter if have to shut down your internet. Internet is everywhere, so if your home network is experiencing issues there are plenty of nearby McDonalds that provide free WiFi access. You could even take your laptop into Starbucks and place a table at the counter, and browse the Internet until you're dead. But no cafe or restaurant will be able to help you further north, and a few hours from the closest shack with the electricity generated by the weak generator.. There isn't any internet connection accessible. In these situations, there are two options for escape: prepare to be disconnected from your home or get satellite access.

A sat-phone is expensive and I'm not able to afford it. The next time I'll have a huge collection of audio and videos prior to my journey into the world of unknown. Last time I had only two songs. The songs were downloaded earlier in the day, so all I had to listen to were three jazz tracks and one song I didn’t know the name of. That's it. 4 songs for two weeks of absolute nothingness. I would have planned for this if I knew. I would have loaded my laptop up with TV shows, films, music videos, and audio files that contained songs and podcasts. My favorite podcasts would be my soundtrack for life. It is easy to download podcasts, convert them to MP3 format and save them to my computer. After that, I can relax in my bed and enjoy whatever music I like to listen to at home, but don't have the time for. It could be my gold hour and would have been two weeks' worth of gold. It ended up being two weeks of gazing at a ceiling and trying to catch passengers every time there was a sound coming from the corridors.


Both metaphorically and literally, the trip was empty. I've never been so bored. I was aware that the ice was thick and the boat had no other choice than to turn around and get back to civilization. yt to mp3 Although this was not surprising however, it meant many hours could be spent listening to and watching DIY videos, podcasts for home repairs or simply enjoying music. Next time I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 and MP3 formats using my laptop. Don't be depressed, music will always lift your spirits. Also remember Hulu as well as Netflix apps are able to download films and shows to stream offline. They can also be viewed on the long arctic trip. Make sure you don't spend your time sat in a boring place. Have fun!
