Where to Donate Clothes

Donating clothes or gently used goods to charity is a great way to help out your local children and support our troops. In fact, not only are you doing your part to save lives, but you are also helping out your local economy! Millions of dollars in donated goods are put aside for the benefit of our troops and children. All you need to do to help is to find a good place to donate your clothes.


One of the most popular places to donate your gently used goods is the Salvation Army. They have a fleet of trucks that constantly checks cars to see if they are qualified for donation. If your car needs repairs, they will come pick it up. There are agency of charity that the Salvation Army has partnered with including the American Red Cross, Feed The Children, Catholic Children's charities and the Salvation Army.


Another great place to donate your gently used books and other things is Goodwill Industries. Their main facility is located in Michigan and they have branches in Wisconsin, Ohio and California. What kind of clothes can be donated? They receive just about anything: bedding, clothing, shoes, kitchen items, office supplies, school supplies, etc. They accept most new and used books as well as gently used books from churches, schools, the United Way and other sources.


The United Way also has a place where you can donate your gently used goods. All that you need to do to get there is to fill out their form online. Then they will call you and email you with their custom-fit clothes and clothing donation quote. They accept practically everything; household electronics, ladies handbags, children's clothing, shoes, sports equipment and the red cross.


Last but not least is Planet Aid. This amazing organization helps women in need with food, water, clothing and shelter. agency believes that one woman's junk is another woman's treasure. There are other ways to learn about where to donate clothes. One great place is by joining your local Lions Club, or other clubs in your area. Membership in any club gives you access to great information about helping others. In addition, many companies offer a rewards program for those who donate to their charities.


Your local United Way or other local and national Red Cross organizations should also be on your list of places to donate clothes to. These organizations take in far more than just donations of clothes. They also provide with shelter, hot meals, and transportation to local Women's shelters as well as some nursing homes. They also have reverse mortgages and other loans that can be used to help those who are unable to work.


The best place to find out about what kind of clothes can be donated is the internet. There are websites that have lists of all of the different places that you can go to with regard to your donations. Some of these places may even accept your gently used clothing and other recycled items as well. There is a vast array of different charities and organizations to choose from when learning about what kind of clothes can be donated. Take the time to explore your options and you are sure to make a difference!


Another place that can offer information as to what kind of clothes can be donated is a Red Cross shop. You can go to any location that has a Red Cross store and speak to one of their volunteers. They will be able to tell you the different ways that you can help. Many times they can even give you a map of locations so that you can find the nearest Red Cross store as well as the different places that you can donate your gently used clothing. Another place to learn as to what kind of clothes can be donated is at your local pharmacy. There should be a bulletin board right next to the prescriptions. If there is not a board, there should be a note that says something to the effect of "please take your medicine off the counter". This way you can ask them if they have a drop-off location or if they prefer that you fill up your prescription with them instead.


The last place that you should look in your local area is your local toy stores. Many toy stores have a donation bin, where you can donate clothes, blankets, diapers, toys, books, or other items. If they don't have a bin, they should be able to point you in the direction of someone that does. It never hurts to call them and ask if they have a preferred place that you can donate your items to. Many times they might be able to match your items to someone in need of them.
