What is the Activist Investor Strategies?

What exactly is an activist? Activists are people with a strong commitment to social change, and their actions often reflect their beliefs. There are many different types of activism.


The most popular form of activism is non-violent civil disobedience. Activists can choose from many methods to express their viewpoint. Some of the most common forms of activism are civil disobedience, civil rights activity, vegetarianism, environmentalism, animal rights, anti-war and other political action and loose political association. Activists can also choose to be gender specific as well. Transgendered, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and asexual individuals are considered to be part of a special category of activists known as lesbians and gay men. Other types of activists include those in the health care, legal, child support, literature, politics, science and education fields.


One of the most important aspects of being an activist is having an understanding of the difference between privilege and oppression. Many environmentalists consider themselves environmentalists, but they are really concerned about the exploitation of natural resources. An environmentalist is a member of an environmental minority, but he or she does not practice any extreme tactics. Activists who claim any kind of privilege are usually those who practice radical tactics, and are not truly an advocate of justice.


What is an activist? An activist does more than participate in traditional political action. Activists go beyond participating in elections and making donations. Activists work on issues that are important to them, issues that affect them, issues that touch on things that are personal to them, and that have significance to them and their community.


It is said that environmentalists are more concerned with the quality of life for animals and nature, while gay and lesbian activists are more concerned with creating equal rights for gay and lesbian citizens. So, how different are these groups really? Gay and lesbian activists are concerned with gay rights, equal rights for everyone, and they fight against discrimination. Environmentalist are concerned with environmental protection. Activism can range from being completely peaceful, to causing mass disruptions and violence.


What is an Activist? An Activist is someone who engages in direct action for social change, whether that change comes from speaking out at city council meetings, mobilizing people to go beyond the law, or staging a sit-in to call attention to social issues. Sometimes these Activists get arrested. At other times they may just inspire people to go beyond what normal people would do. Some of the many types of activism include civil disobedience, social justice, direct action, and to terrorism.


What is agency -activist? An anti-activist is someone who generally does not engage in the same types of activities as an Activist. Instead, an anti-activist generally monitors and critiques of media coverage of activists, and promotes social media usage by Activists and others. Anti-activists are often critical of privileged movements such as Gay rights and speak out against the excesses of privilege found in such movements. This does not mean that all anti-activists are guilty of anti-racism; all anti-activists are guilty of privilege.


What is a Public Company? A Public company is a company that is listed publicly on a stock exchange, but has not gone through any initial public offering. There are many well-known public companies that have gone public, such as Apple and Microsoft. Public companies are able to raise capital through what is called an IPO, or "Initial Public Offering".


What is an Institutional Investor? An institutional investor is a group of professional investors who usually make investments in stocks that they follow and/or have a good understanding of the business that they are invested in. These institutional investors often hold a stock for years and do not actively participate in the daily business of the company. Most of the time, these investors have the most long term investment stake possible in a given company.


What is Corporate Governance? Corporate Governance is the overall guidelines and rules within a corporation and the industries within which the corporation operates. The general content of the Corporation's Corporate Governance Policy is to make sure that the company follows strict guidelines governing mergers and acquisitions, Board of Directors meetings, executive compensation, business growth and expenditures, management review of operations and shareholders' votes at Board meetings. There are many companies that work towards achieving a strict and comprehensive corporate governance policy. Some of the more prominent companies with this type of policy include Wells Fargo Bank, Procter & Gamble and United States Steel Corp.


So, what is the activist investor strategies? agency work towards changing the Corporation's Board of Directors or the Board of Directors' policy by one way or another. One such way is to use capital allocation and profit neutralizing investment techniques to change the company's overall capital structure and allocation policy. This is typically done through Hedge Fund activism.
