What is Social Activism?

When you are into any form of social activism, your tactics should be geared towards changing public opinion so that it will favor your beliefs. For instance, when there are issues concerning human rights, animal rights or the environment, your tactics need to be more persuasive than convincing. Convincing people is easier than persuading them.


Some activists use non-violent tactics, while others prefer to use force to achieve their goals. Non-violent tactics include sidewalk protests, making speeches, writing letters and so on. When there is street fighting, it is termed as street fighting; if it involves physical confrontations then it is known as rioting. Some activists are known for using illegal tactics while some are charged under the law for unlawful tactics of social action. Activists who face charges for unlawful tactics of social action can defend themselves by claiming self-defense. Charges of unlawful tactics should be taken seriously.


Some activists use the Internet to engage in social action. Internet activism can be termed as online social activism. Activists have their websites which contain a collection of news articles and blogs. agency and blogs are updated regularly. Online activism can involve using blogs to promote causes and upload photos of the events, discussing issues, creating forums, sending e-mails to members of an organization or to other supporters of the cause.


Activist groups also take part in human rights activities like teaching, campaigning, assisting, and sharing expertise through conferences and trainings. There are various types of these types of actions. There are many examples of popular protests and civil disobedience. The famous example is the civil war protesters in America during the late 1800s. Other popular examples include the French Refusals on the right of the People to vote, the Arab Spring uprisings, and other popular uprisings throughout the world. All of these examples of social change and protest make the activists seem almost single-minded when compared to the more traditional forms of campaigning and politics.


Many social justice advocates consider themselves as social activists. The reason for this label is that they themselves use methods of social change and advocacy in order to bring about change within society. Activist groups may be political, religious, social, or ethnic in nature. Some groups may even take on an approach that combines elements of all three approaches.


An organizer or leader of a group may have been active in one type of social movement or another throughout their life. In most cases, though, there are some core principles or core beliefs that guide the overall movement. These core beliefs form the foundation or the beliefs that underlie the core work of the social activism. If you want to get involved in any type of social movement, it is important that you learn to identify what drives your beliefs and principles regarding the movement, and how these beliefs and principles will guide you in your activism and decision making.
