Rotterdam Netherlands - Europe's Largest Port

With a 2007 public of 584,000, Rotterdam sits on the great delta around the river Rhine, and will be the biggest port in Europe. It's the Netherlands' second-largest city next to the more much talked about Amsterdam, but Rotterdam definitely has its own special appeal which makes it a very good tourist destination. In fact, 4 million people per year go to Rotterdam.


The city center was mostly destroyed right at the outset of World War II, as well as the city was rebuilt with a glance toward the future. Thus Rotterdam is a modern city compared to some of its European contemporaries, along with features much stunning modern architecture. The city is famous for its impressive skyline. It's the tallest residential building within the Netherlands at 524 feet, and also the 520 foot tallest office building, called Delftse Poort. Another prominent aspect of the skyline is the 610 foot Euromast Tower, which is a really popular tourist attraction.


Rotterdam has worked hard to make itself an attractive location, and was compensated for that attempt with the European Capital of Culture designation inside 2001. The city is full of museums of that there are many, including the Maritime Museum, that has more than a half million exhibits. There is much great shopping as well, with the Linjbaan pedestrian going shopping place standing out with its many fine specialty restaurants. Moreover , see to it that you check out the Oceanium, which is a wonderful sea aquarium that includes an especially scary shark tunnel.


Don't miss the well known Walk of Fame, that commemorates 200 international celebrities in deep concrete along "Star Boulevard". The port is particularly well lit and amazing at nighttime -- before you leave Rotterdam, you've to have a cruise on the decorative "pancake boat", in which you are able to cruise across the nighttime cityscape and port while ingesting all of the pancakes you can carry away.
