After a horrendous rookie season in which he led all tackles in sacks allowed, Kolton Miller has bounced back in a big way, and has now earned himself an extension. Miller was solid in 2019, but he took his game to another level in 2020. He’s not the best run blocker, but he was very good in pass protection, ranking top ten in PFF pass blocking grade and allowing 31 total pressures. Pass protection is a very valuable asset, and in my opinion, Miller is above average in that category. He’s also only getting better, and has shown significant improvement from season to season. Keep in mind that this contract will start in 2023, so while it seems like a lot now, it won’t by then. For example, Taylor Lewan signed a contract extension in 2018 that made him the highest paid tackle in the league, at $16M per year. Lewan is now the 8th highest paid tackle in football, $7M behind Trent Williams. Miller has proven to be the franchise left tackle of the Raiders, and he was definitely someone they had to extend this offseason. They were able to get him at very good value. I have a hard time seeing this signing flop.
