Ferula berasal dari bahasa latin 'ferula' yang memiliki arti 'batang'. Nama ini mengacu pada genus tanaman milik keluarga wortel dengan nama yang sama. Ada dua tanaman dengan nama ini yaitu Adas dan Silphium.
Adas (foeniculum vulgare) adalah tanaman yang dahulu bernama ferula sebelum dimasukan pada genus famili wortel sedangkan Silphium adalah tanaman zaman kuno klasik yang sering digunakan sebagai bumbu dan obat. Tanaman ini bisa mengobati batuk, sakit tenggorakan, demam, gangguan pencernaan dan masih banyak lagi. Sayangnya tanaman ini diyakini sudah punah sekarang.
Story:
Pada tahun 1987-1988, saudara yakub meminta madam Poppy Pomfrey mengajari mereka mantra ini dan berhasil. Lalu Remus Lupin juga memakai mantra ini untuk mengikat kaki Ron terlebih dahulu baru nanti disembuhkan oleh Madam Pomfrey (buku 3 bab 19,The Servant of Lord Voldemort)
