The San Francisco 49ers have re-signed LT Trent Williams to a six year contract!


Yes, I know I already posted this, but after finding more information about the contract Trent Williams signed, I’ve changed my mind, and I’m now giving this an A+ instead of an A-. Be sure to take a look at the original post I made on the Trent Williams signing, it’ll make a lot more sense if you do. I gave it an A- at first because I thought the term was too much and it was a risk, but I still loved everything else about the contract. As it turns out, Williams didn’t actually sign a 6 year contract. After the first three years of the contract, in which Williams will be making about $16M per year, the 49ers will have the option to pick up the final three years of the contract or let him walk. For the final three years of the contract, Williams is slated to make nearly $30M per year, so if the salary cap doesn’t go up like it’s supposed to or Williams regresses, then the Niners can choose to not pick up the final 3 years. If they do this, they will have to deal with about $12M in dead cap, but that’s still much less risk than I originally thought. More importantly, getting Williams at only $16M per year for the next three seasons is an absolute steal. For that reason, I decided to give this signing a perfect grade.
