Departemen Pengaturan dan Pengawasan Satwa Gaib memberi klasifikasi kepada semua hantu, hewan, makhluk yang dikenal. Klasifikasi ini adalah petunjuk terhadap tingkat bahaya tiap makhluk.
Klasifikasi Kementrian Sihir (KKM):
1. XXXXX: dikenal sebagai pembunuh penyihir/mustahil dilatih dan dijinakkan. Contoh makhluk pada KKM ini adalah Acromantula, Basilisk, Manticore dan Werewolf.
2. XXXX: Berbahaya. Butuh pengetahuan khusus dan penanganan para ahli. Contoh makhluk pada KKM ini adalah Centaurus, Phoenix, Troll, Unicorn dan Yeti.
3. XXX: dapat ditangani penyihir yang cakap. Contoh makhluk pada KKM ini adalah: Salamander, Ular Laut, Shrake dan Crup.
4. XX: tidak berbahaya atau bisa dijinakkan. Contoh makhluk pada KKM ini adalah: Augurey, Bowtruckle dan Clabbert.
5. X: bikin bosan. Contoh makhluk pada KKM ini adalah cacing Flobber dan Horklump.
